2015 Blanc de Blancs, Carneros
As Corner 103’s Lloyd Davis says, “Everyday is a celebration of life, so why not toast with sparkling morning, noon and night?” There is no time like the present to toast with our 2015 Blanc de Blancs. This beautifully structured, elegant sparkling wine is produced from not chardonnay, but vernaccia, an Italian white wine varietal that helps put the “veni” in Julius Caesar's “veni, vidi, vici” (“I came, I saw, I conquered”).
In fact, vernaccia is one of the most important white wine varietals in Italy. Vernaccia was actually the first wine to receive an Italian “DOC” (denominazione di origine controllata), similar to a wine growing region in California being named an “AVA” (American Viticultural Area).
It’s grown primarily in two beautiful regions of Italy that we absolutely love: Tuscany and Sardinia. However, in California it’s a rare grape. We were lucky to discover this varietal in a vineyard just about four miles south of our tasting room, in the Carneros region. Our Blanc de Blancs is rich with aromas and flavors of pears, yellow apples, a touch of almond and a fabulous acidity, the latter which makes a great sparkler.
Only 285 cases of this wine was produced. Serve it in a coupe/saucer glass to ensure the ultimate aromatic and taste experience.
